Custom domain
Some ad blockers block analytics scripts by their address. Serving Foresite from a subdomain of your own site, such as stats.example.com, avoids that, and works on every site builder.
-
In the dashboard, open Settings → Install, and under Custom domain enter a subdomain of your site, e.g.
stats.example.com. -
At your domain's DNS provider, add the two records the dashboard shows:
Type Name Value CNAME statscustom.foresite.devTXT _foresite-verify.statsthe code shown in the dashboard, e.g. 8833f3e12f88b87c8a1f27b4196df879The CNAME sends traffic to us. The TXT record proves the subdomain is yours: its code is new each time a subdomain is added, so nobody else can use your subdomain, even if an old CNAME still points at us. Each record has a copy button in the dashboard. Some DNS providers want the full name (
_foresite-verify.stats.example.com) and others only the part before your domain; the dashboard shows both forms. -
Wait for the dashboard to show Verified. It usually takes a few minutes, though DNS can take up to a day. We set up HTTPS automatically. Keep both records in place afterwards.
-
Replace your Foresite line with the custom-domain version shown in the dashboard.
If the subdomain was used with another Foresite account before, replace that account's _foresite-verify value with your new one; it moves to your account once the old value is gone.
Whichever address the script loads from, Foresite still stores nothing that identifies your visitors.
Developers who'd rather route requests through their own server can use a self-hosted proxy instead.
